Mara Intrepids - Mara Masai reserve

Mara Intrepids Club is a luxury camp in the Mara Masai National Reserve. With the Talek River on the south joining a small tributary of the Mara River to the West, the camp is set apart as an oasis of comfort and privacy under spreading trees.

The 27 tents are scattered among the trees and along the riverbanks in secluded groups of three or four. In camp you walk along flagstone pathways winding through the riverine forest. There are birds and monkeys in the trees, eager to share early morning tea on your veranda. You have the romantic feeling of being on your own private safari in the African bush. In fact, some tent clusters include a club tent equipped with bar, fridge and dining table. You and your party can plan a personal barbecue and campfire with the help of the Intrepids staff.

The tents are fun, they are rustic and natural with handcrafted safari furniture of wood and leather, but there are far from basic. There are canopied beds, hand-woven rugs, and full-length mirrors, electrified lanterns sitting on barrel tables and several zip-down door and separate shower. The flashlight and big black umbrella are nice touches. There is even a fascinating safari box with folding mirror and hidden compartments-Finch-Hatton, where are you?

In keeping with the tradition safari experience, breakfast and lunch are served buffet-style in an outdoor dining area. The tall trees above are alive with the sounds of more birds and monkeys. Dinner is served more formally in the open-sided dining tent.

The lookout tower near the airstrip is set up as a sundowner bar in the late afternoon, providing a good place to relax after game drives and to watch for game at sunset. A rustic swimming pool surrounded by interesting rocks offers cool- sided dining tent.

There is a rustic bar with comfy leather chairs near the river. Wildlife videos are shown in the adjoining alcove. Every night, leopard bait is hung out across the river to entice this beautiful and secretive animal into view. Enjoy this exciting spectacle in comfort from the bar, or get an even closer view from the wooden deck extending out over the river.

Nearby, a wooden suspension footbridge spans the river. The wobbly crossing adds a charming sense of adventure to any Intrepids game drives which set off from the opposite bank. Vehicles are well-used fleet of green Land rovers. They have wide open top and sides and are tough and cheerful. Mara Intrepids unique location means that you rarely see a vehicle from somewhere else. Once you leave camp you are immediately among the wildlife, and the scenery in this part of the Mara is superb-varied and memorable!
