Staying In A Five Star Hotel

I was not poor, but my parents were never people to throw around their money. Staying in five star hotels was something that had never really occurred to me when I was growing up. What would you need with a five star luxury hotel? We were always taught to make our own entertainment, after all. On vacations, we would go on hikes, explore the local surroundings, and take in movies - all pretty basic activities. We never really needed luxuries like room service, although as kids we loved to go swimming in pools.

So I was pleasantly amused when the conference I was going to decided to put us all up in 5 star hotels. As one of the world's foremost experts in physical anthropology, I have always been treated well, but a five star hotel defied my expectations. With the dearth of funding in academia nowadays, I wondered if they weren't being a little bit too extravagant. I was almost tempted to complain about the five star hotel, but when I talked to one of my colleagues, she rolled her eyes at me. She told me to relax and enjoy for once - to stop always being so serious. I took her suggestions to heart. I wanted to know what made five star hotels so special.

Let me say that I was fairly impressed. I had never even stated a four star hotel before, and to me luxury accommodations simply meant a clean room with a soft bed. five star hotels took everything to a new level entirely. There was a fireplace in every room, a fully catered luxurious meal, marble floors in the lobby, and recreation facilities beyond anything I had seen anywhere but in the most high-priced gyms. There were even professional massages available for hire. I can't say that I needed, or even used every service the five star hotel had to offer, but I was certainly less critical of it by the time I left. Of course it was a waste of resources, and of course it was extravagant, but that was the whole point.

Looking back on the experience, I am glad that I had it. If I never stay in five star hotels again, that is quite fine with me - it isn't something that is important to my way of life. Still, five star hotels are something that should be experienced by everyone at least once in life - if for no other reason than to know what goes on in them.
